  • Seven teams that missed the postseason in 2024 have a winning record this season – Indianapolis (7-2), New England (7-2), Seattle (6-2) San Francisco (6-3), Jacksonville (5-3), Chicago (5-3) and Carolina (5-4).

Games are more competitive and exciting than ever

  • 64 percent of games (87 of 135) have been within one score (eight points) in the fourth quarter.
  • 48 percent of games (65 of 135) have been decided by seven points or fewer.
  • 27 percent of games (36 of 135) have been decided by three points or fewer.
  • There have been four games per week (36 of 135) won by a team that trailed in the fourth quarter.
  • Entering 2025, teams had lost 135 consecutive games when trailing by 15-or-more points entering the fourth quarter, including the postseason – there have been four such wins so far in 2025 (Buffalo in Week 1, Tennessee Week 5, Denver in Week 7 and the New York Jets in Week 8).

 Scoring on the rise

  • There have been 46.74 points scored per game this season, the highest mark since 2021 (46.8).
  • There have been 708 offensive touchdowns scored this season, the fifth-most through Week 9 all-time, trailing only 2020 (778), 2018 (736), 2021 (743) and 2014 (711).
  • There have been 677 touchdowns scored this season, the fourth-most through Week 9 all-time, trailing only 2020 (746), 2021 (702) and 2018 (692).

Special teams shine

  • There have been the most kick returns (1,100) and kick return yards (28,335) through Week 9 in NFL history and the second-highest kick return average (25.8 yards).
  • 79 percent of kickoffs have been returned (1,111 of 1,387), up from 31.2 percent through Week 9 in 2024 (445 of 1,424) and the highest return rate through Week 9 in 19 years (2006).
